What would be the best multi effect unit to use alongside single pedals? I just want to use the noise gate and maybe some effects off of the unit. Do you also recommend using a multi effect unit with single pedals? Smiley

Get a GT-10 and put all the single pedals in a cardboard box under your bed to gather dust for eternity. thats what I did Smiley

The GT-10 is $499. Or for only $140 more, you can have a Digitech GSP1101 and Controller 2 (foot controller unit). The quality difference is worth it.

P.S. Papa, how could I ever hide your AC fuzz away? Same for the Retro comp and Bloody Murder tubescreamer.

Hang on Zug you pay $140 more for less quality? Smiley

I'd have the boss anyday over the GSP1101

I have been using the retrocomp infront of the GT-10 lately, still not found a one setting fits all sweet spot. Sometimes its on others its not, but when its on I like it. I'm a bit limited as far as putting pedals in the GT-10's FX loop, as I have the preamp of my Matamp in there (have done the 4 wire setup, with the guitar going to the GT then the FX S+R going between the input and FX send of the amp and the GT' output going to the amps FX return. Figured it was the best of both worlds

Sounds like a nice set up you've got there. Smiley

A lot of people on other forums think the 1101 is easily better than anything from Boss or Line 6. The comparisons are more between the 1101 and Axe-FX (which is at a much higher price point). But of course not everyone will agree, and these things tend to be subjective.

Just don't judge the 1101 by the quality of a typical Digitech pedal. It's almost like 2 different companies building products under 1 name. The group that did the 1101 did some great stuff. Check out clips on youtube or go to some other forums where guys are using it. Don't be afraid to like what you hear.

I am running guitar -> pedal board ->1101 -> power amp-> 2x12. Sometimes the pedal board isn't in there. I have yet to figure out how or if I could put pedals inside the 1101 fx loop. Gotta RTFM you know... I do see the opportunity to at least downsize the pedal board. Sad though because I sunk a lot of time and cash into it.

RTFM is teh sukz!!
I still haven't read it for the GT-10 and am probably losing out as a result, but the 'hmmm lets press this button' approach has served me well so far Smiley

I'm not in the market for any new gear right now, but if I do cross paths with a 1101 I will try and not be too biased. I think the next purchase will be a guitar, its less than 2 weeks since the last one so have to calm the Gas for a while Smiley

I really hear ya about the manuals and the gear!

I've been selling gear to fund other gear. I've sold: upgraded Ibanez Artcore AS73, Framus Dragon head and my Line 6 pocket pod. I bought: the 1101 + controller2, Carvin 200 watt solid state power amp and 4 space rack. So far I'm cash ahead, and still have 4 guitars, a 1x12 tube combo, board w/10 pedals, a smaller rig as well and a bunch of misc gear.

I have a Boss GT8 and my pedal board is in the box, as a backup, probably never to be used (but never to be sold either!). I must say, having a Tele and an Artcore AS93, the GT8 gives me every tone imaginable, and user friendly (not that the GT10 isn't, but boy the GT10 has alot more gizmo's that the GT8!). Scanned over the manual so I'd know how to turn it on and change the odd patch setup, but thats it! A multi is my cup of tea, pedals are nice, but the multi's will give more versatility, especially if you have more than 1 guitar! I have patches for the Tele and patches for the Artcore (singles versus humbuckers), it's the easiest and best tone once you dial it in (don't go with the stock patches, but they're a good starting point, they usually have things maxxed or really high, so you can dial them down and fine tune them). Multi's get my vote, and Boss is my favorite (the Vox Tonelab's would be a close 2nd!).

I got a GT-10 about a year ago and I have not plugged in any individual pedals since. You'd have to be a pretty serious cork-sniffing tone snob not to be able to find a sound somewhere in the GT-10 that would work for just about any situation you could imagine.

The GT-10 is a kickass pedal. I'm not saying it's better than others but for what you can do with it, it's unreal.

For example, I made a patch where I'll have a slighly fuzz tone for picking and when I strum, hitting the strings harder (pick dynamic), it clears up and have delay added to it.

It has a patch called Vio-Guitar where it sound like a sweet violin but I changed it by removing some of the swell to allow faster picking and I solo on it for hours.

The pedal has a bit of a learning curve but the payoff is priceless. Smiley

I lost the patches when I did a reset so I'll have to write all over again. I had about 8 patches made. I've been trying to hook it to the computer via USB and can't get it to work. Maybe one day I'll figure it out.

I went advanced and got the updated software and so on. Went by the book and still no workee. I used the cable off my printer because of the plug. Maybe the cable's not right for it. I'll try again when I get a new cable.

On GT central lots of users are complaining about it.
