It may not be the amp. It could be a grounding issue or a short in the guitar . Make sure the jack nut is tight on the guitar. Sometimes when they get loose the guitar can partially short out.
Could be a failling or cracked solder joint in the guitar wiring .
Does the PRS sound ok in another amp? If not it isn't the amp.
If it were the amp the Ibanez would probably sound bad too.

They're probably right about the cause of the immediate problem. But imo a PRS custom 24 into a Crate? That guitar deserves better.
this rig requires something with a little more kick... plutonium!

Sounds a little snooty there Zug. You don't even know what kind of music he's playing, etc.
I say rock on with whatever you've got

Ah c'mon, a lot of people hate on Crate. You have to admit that PRS outclasses the amp.

I just don't get on with any PRS I have played or owned,I really wanted to because they are so versatile. The headstock angle is too shallow so it notes out when you're doing bends around the octave on the high E.
I have gigged with just a Strat or Tele,A Peavey Bandit plus a Boss CS3 & SD1,Oh and cables too.I had compliments about my tone.
You use what gear you have,It is true about alot of the tone being in the fingers. Also knowing your equipment and what it's capable of,sometimes the simplest things are the most versatile.

It's the guy's first post here. Chuck would be disappointed... in both us probably.
The guys were probably correct in suggesting that you have a ground problem in the guitar. Make sure the jack is tight as well as any other connections. A buzz going away when you touch any metal on the guitar is a tell-tale sign of a ground short somewhere. Since the jack is subject to movement when you plug and unplug, or accidentally pull too hard with the cord, it's the most likely place to have a problem.
btw, we're all a little weird around here and we love to be the one that is CORRECT. Take it all with a grain of salt and welcome to G-Net

A thread that is just that above line should be stickied EVERYWHERE in this forum, would save some headaches.
Welcome to G Net.
I'd agree with the above, sounds like a grounding issue on the geetar.
What I wouldn't give for a PRS Custom 22/24....................

Welcome, and I agree with the others about the potential causes of your noise and disagree with Zug on the amp, I almost bought a Crate V1512 when I bought my Peavey Classic 30, and was a great sounding amp.
Let us know how you make out.

OK, so there is some minor disagreement. No biggie. No insults have been hurled and everyone's been respected. Don't forget the OP actually asked "...is my amp too crappy for the guitar..." After FIRST agreeing about the grounding problem, I then addressed that statement. There's no problem here.

+1 on the grounding problem. Big +1 on the PRS (beautiful guitars). And a great big resounding -1 on the Crate! I agree with Zug. Just remember that the greatest guitar on the planet will only sound as good as the amplification it goes through.

Tjod since your post my Aria Cardinal 350 just started making bad noise.
Checked the cable with another guitar, nope cable was fine. Amp was fine too.
Started with the guitar jack , nope that was solid.
Probed with a screw driver inside the electronics cavity with guitar plugged in and amp on. I could kill the noise by touching the ground plate with a screw driver, so there was a problem in the circuit. I wiggled wires gently , probed solder joints. Bingo ! a solder joint that looked fine had deteriorated on one of the pots. It looked good but wasn't . Tinned the tip of my old Weller solder gun I bought 45 years ago, still works like a charm. Then while keeping it hot I resoldered the bad solder joint. Plugged the guitar, in dead quiet no bad noise. Sounds great. This is the second time I have had to solder a joint on the pot of a guitar. easy fix. Never use acid flux to solder electronics , only use rosin core solder made for electronics. radio shack.

BREAKING NEWS - OP not seen since 7/24, investigation is underway. Last seen with crappy Crate amp in hand, headed in the direction of the river. Details at eleven, as they say.
I have both kinds of guitars - Fender AND Gibson.
