I know the Boss site has answers, but this place has better people!!! When I run my GT8 into my new PA, I find I get some hiss (almost sounds like too much compression), especially bad with my Artcore, the Tele isn't as bad. Is it I have too much comression or gain on the preamps in the GT8? Is it a simple fix or is it a matter of dialing in the settings to reduce this? The Tele sounds pretty good, but some of the patches has that hiss (if you mute the strings and hit them, there's a "hiss" like a bad reverb). If anyone runs a multi into a PA (especially a Boss product), let me know if you had / have this and how you fixed it.

You might want to check each module as some have their own volume and gain and maybe EQ.

Maybe turn up your noise gate too. The louder you play the more NS you need.

Does the GT8 have a "balanced" output? If not, I suggest a passive DI box between it and the PA.

EDIT: I see it has a balanced output, are you using the XLR out to the PA? If so, you should be good in that regard. The hiss could be the compressor, but typically I find it to be in the EQ section. Are you running any pedals other than the GT8? If so, you may be getting some noise or even signal loss if they're not balanced.

balances XLR cable and beter control of the input gain on the PA will help. There may be a +6db setting or a ground lift option too. Those are good things to look at.

Smiley Well, I found about 80 % of the problem...................each channel on my Samson PA has a Mic/Line switch, and I had it on Mic, so the preamp on the PA made the hiss quite pronounced. I found some stuff to dial out as well, but using the NR on it really sterilizes the sound. I found my happy medium, thanks for the hekp, folks!

And Scotty, where you say it has a "balanced" out, would that be the "right" output (where the left one says "mono"Smiley? I did read up a bit on this a looooong time ago but never thought about this part of it!!! Because I never use the right output, always the left (mono) one.

Well, I'm confused. I could have SWORN I read somewhere the other day, when I was looking for an answer for you, that the GT-8 has an XLR out. I went to boss and pulled up the OM and I saw that you have a single (mono) or double (stereo) out from it. I also looked at the output specs, it's definitely hi impedance input (which makes me assume output as well with 1Mg in and 2k out), however it's been a while since I've researched all that.

Bottom line for me is, I would assume it was a high impedance device (unbalanced) designed for a guitar signal and not the balanced signals that PA's use (gotta love this industry eh???). I'd throw a passive DI box between the GT-8 and the input for your PA. That should remove any doubt.

If you're handy with a soldering iron, I have a diagram on how to make a DI box. You just need a few input jacks, a 1:1 isolation transformer and something to install it all in.

That's great advice Scotty, and looks like a fun project for me to do in my spare time (or I'll be lazy and pick up a passive DI box! Smiley ).
