Ben is a lecturer in Sociology at the School of Humanities at Coventry University and also is co-director of Photo Archive Miners. Photo Archive Miners work with the public to tell stories with photographs. This is usually archive photography, such as that found in family albums or commercial studio archives, but can also be new commissions. We think of people as creatives, not footfall. We work with them to curate a visual story based on their lived understanding of community life. Because of this, communities can challenge the expertise of professionals to produce something new & extraordinary, revealing that which, previously unseen, was always there.
