Hey everybody.
I got kind of bored today so I put a new (to me) guitar together.
We are covering a few Robin Trower songs in my band now so a real Stratocaster sound has become an essential part of the equation.
My Charvels just ain't cutting it for Trower.

So first the neck.
It's a naturally aged nitro finish with a slight flame.
21 frets , C shaped , slab style, with medium frets.

As you can see there is a small tang on the ball end on the headstock which means (duh) its not a REAL fender.
But it was easily $200.00 less than a REAL fender too

A good reproduction Fender waterslide and a few minutes with the dremel tool and nobody will ever know the difference.
price paid = $59.70

I bought the body today also.
It's factory fresh (mint) Stratocaster reproduction body.
It came with strap buttons and pickguard and tremolo cover.
Saved a ton on this too.
price paid = $89.99

Ok so it's not a 79 Stratocaster
(The 79 pictured is $2,700.00)
My El Cheapo Strat is only going to cost me about $300.00 total.
And (by the way) my El Cheapo was entirely paid for from the proceeds of some pointy necked Jacksons parts that I never really liked all that much anyways.

I've still got that Fender neck plate that I bought six or 7 months ago.

That's a sweet job you've done there, I'm impressed. A mix of genuine Fender parts plus some super cheap but well built add-ins seems a pretty good approach to me.

thanks...it's a fun hobby but you can very easily end up with too many guitars if you don't somehow keep things under control.

Nice job! How does the sound compare to a real strat?

It's not finished yet but with the real 62 Fender reissue pickups I would imagine it's going to be pretty Strat like. Or as I like to say...close enough for rock and roll.
I passed on a set of Lindy Fralins for $269.00
I've been away from the Strat sound for many years. Being a proud Gibson Les Paul owner from 2001 - 2011. Strats are cool in their own way.

Well the body and the electronics have arrived but the neck has not. I got an email from the seller (of the neck) and he said I might be getting the wrong neck (when it arrives) due to a shipping mixup.
I can't wait 3 or 4 weeks for him to get everything straightened out so I did some parts swapping within my own inventory and put a nice maple Charvel neck on it ($140.00)
you can see it here
