and didn't know it until today!

My Espana Classical guitar was made in Finland in the early 60s. After searching the history of these guitars, I found out Espana made them in Finland and Sweden during that time period and they were imported to 5 Union Square New York where they were distributed. The tag in the sound hole of my guitar verifies this. The articles I found state they were made with Brazilian rosewood with either Spruce or Cedar tops. Mine is Spruce. Assuming this info is correct, I can't believe I didn't know this until now.

It's not easy being Polish---My people struggle Smiley

BTW My parents paid less that $150 ( as best we can remember ) back then Smiley

I posted this here because no one goes to the classical forum and very few would see it in the acoustic forum.

I have access to an Espania ... it was my brother's first classical guitar when he was studying at Temple University... they ain't bad for the buck. I believe that you are correct about the construction materials.

It's only relatively recently that Brazilian rosewood has been a scarce commodity and embroiled in legal issues. Back then, it wasn't a problem to get it, so you're probably right.

Of course, my family new nothing about guitars when I started taking lessons so they relied on my teacher to steer them in the right direction as far as guitar selection--My teacher was a professional classical / jazz guitarist who graduated from the Peabody conservatory

I believe it all started about 35 years ago. Martin started transitioning fron Brazilian to Indian Rosewood in 72-73 I bought my D35 new in 73 but if I would have purchased a used one--it would have been brazilian

It's cool making new discoveries! A few years ago my local Guitar Center had two old used Espanas for sale, and they were some well crafted, great sounding classical guitars. They didn't stay in inventory long. I wish I would have had the cash to get one of them.

Sting, back away from the keyboard and keep those hands where we can see them. OK assume the position, you got anything on you that I should know about? Any more Indian Rosewood in your pockets? Any Napster downloads? Smiley
