I noticed there was a tone forum here but it did not have any postings, so I thought I'd try one here.
I have purchased numerous effects pedals over the years, even a digital processor or two. One of my main questions is how can you get a guitar tone with the guitar right out the box with no effects added?
Every time I pick up my electric and just strum or pick out a few notes, it sounds so 'tinny' and metallic; not at all like a guitar.
Now the issue may be compounded because I am hooked up to a Pignose amp (my main amp is downstairs behind a stack of books).
Comments any one?

Pick ups and Amplifiers mostly. You have to have the right combo.
What is the sound you are going for? My preferred rig at the moment is a Traynor VCY40WR and A gibson Midtown Custom, It sound great for R&B but it isn't the right setup for every situation. Probably explains why I have so many guitars and amplifiers. I have payed a few "gigs" with an ES335 and an EPI Valve Jr with a borrowed reverb pedal because I needed a slightly over driven Jazz sound. When I need to get a cranked vintage sound for fusion I use a LP55-77 with P90's and a solid state Peavey Special or if I am feeling strong that day I will cart my Peavey Duce or one of the other amps that are laying around my cave. I mean what is it that you are looking for. don't thing the Pignose is what you really need. BTW what kind of ax do you use?

I am using an Epiphone Les Paul Junior. I plan on focusing mostly on blues along the lines of Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, the King Brothers (Albert, Freddie, BB).

Not sure about the Pignose. If you wanna that kind of sound, it has been my experience to go with a Fender tube amp. Or, if ya wanna go on the inexpesive side, go with a fender Mustang. A ot of bang for your buck.

Fender Blues Deluxe. That was my "Holy Grail" amp. I'm big on Clapton's thick sound and can get a decent approximation with that set up. Get an Ibanez Tube Screamer to let you shape the tube driven sounds at low amp volume, otherwise your neighbors will hate you.

Henry, I can make a $60,000 Dumble and a $5000 PRS sound like crap. You could probably make a $700 rig sound better. So tell us what gives.

I don't know what gives Julia .... I have been collecting stuff for around 50 years and I like the way certain combinations of things sound.
But what do I know? I was on the road with two Kustom 200's a Supro and a Gretsch for three years.
I do miss the Fender Bassman I used back in the mid 60's ... I sold the damn thing and an Ampeg B15. What a mistake. So I could just be completely delusional. At my age I think I earned delusional.

It sounds like your guitar needs a setup, and probably new strings.
Tone - it's subjective. My idea of a "bluesy" tone is an overdriven clean channel.
I get a guitar tone simply by plugging the guitar into an amp, myself. Whether or not I like that tone is determined by the guitar and the amp in question.

The Blues Deluxe is a great Amp ... I still may buy one. I wish it had a VT rectifier though.

I really need to make you listen to SRV one of these days... but seriously, between clean and dirty you should be able to achieve a useable blues tone from any amp worth the electricity it runs on.
Make friends with your guitar's tone knob. Maybe consider an ax with a neck pickup in the future.

i did think the Tinny sound came from a 47uF Cap, some seem to like a 33uF Cap or 22
or if you want can put on a switch that Toggles and you can have 47/33/22uF
also love this SWEET Tone switch i found one sign GM Arts i think nice guy to talk to..
were they use a Filter 1MOhms and 10 or 12nF cap
and a 270KOhms with a 3n3 or 3n9F cap

I've listened to SRV (2x TS808's into a Fender as I recall) but I still think of B.B. King before SRV when someone says "blues".

Blues ain't in the tone. It's in the feel.

Mostly I have found that blues playing is the process of playing a wrong note then bending it until it sound like a right note ....... thus making one sad then happy. Ya know .... I'm happy because it feels so bad etc.
