Anybody heard of Goya guitars? They look and feel a lot like Martins...they even use soe of the same bracing as martins do. My friend got one given to him, but her said it cost like 2500?? I doubted this and just wanted to know if anyone knew about them.

Here's a little something I found on the net. I'll also look them up tonight in my Encyclopedia of acoustic guitars.

Goya guitars

Kind of a cool side note, the company I currently work for (Avnet) used to own Guild guitars.

Awesome thanks so much. I have a acoutis encyclopedia-sorta-thing too but i found nothing about them in it. I guess I was right about the Martin similarities though as far as that site told me.

I don't know what model his is but its funny to see NONE of the guitars on the price lists get close haha. NOT to say it isnt a good guitar...it sounded great. I actually wanted to buy it from him.

the guy who built that site is a friend of mine, we met on ebay bidding on goya guitars. he has probably the best goya collection of anybody. i was jealous when he won that black les paul copy.

my first guitar when i was 14 was a nylon string goya folk guitar. so decades later when i had some spending money and ebay, i tried searching for the same guitar as the one i had (it got smashed when i was 18).

goyas were originally made in sweden, i think at first it was the Levin company, and there is some relationship to hagstrom. they were good quality guitars, throughout the fifties and early sixties. in the late sixties, they were bought by martin. they changed after that, they became mostly steel string guitars i think. and the factory was moved to the US, i think. i think the martin era goyas are not as collectable as the earlier ones. but the martin ones are decent guitars.

check out the guy's collection.

The F-19 is similar to the one i had, i think it was an F-11 or 12. I now have a G-10, possibly swedish Goya's most widely sold low frills classical guitar, got it on ebay.

Hey Judy my Goya collection blows your friends away !!

There is nothing like the sound of freshly digested GOYA beans first thing in the morning.

Only Goya has that nice reverb....

Of course it could be my "my amp" thats making them sound so sweet...

LOL.
we don't have those out here.

check out the Waring Blender style multi pick up buttons on those goya electrics--a sign of their times, the early sixties, when "modern" gadgetry was all the rage, from kitchens to cars to goya guitars.

I had always been told that Goya's where Martin's "off shore" guitar supplier back when. Kind of like Sigma is today?
I got to see two that came off E-bay last year, neither was very good. A guy at Church bought them for his son's to learn on, he got excited when he read the word Martin in the auction I guess. Neither of them where very good shape. I think he paid about $100 each for them. After some work and some new parts, we did get one of them to stay in tune, most of the time. The other was a canoe paddle. They where both from the 70's I think. From the looks of them, I couldn't see where they would have ever been a player choice, just what you had to work with. Kind of like a VW bug.
