I edited this to show the link. To see how to do it, you can press edit and it will show you the format. You just need to add a title between the 2nd and 3rd [ ]. Very nice job BTW, well done.

And welcome to G-Net.

New amp day!

Posted by Maritimer in Amplifiers

- Hey folks!! Long time no see! Been quite busy, the family left back for Canada, my daughter's asthma was horrible down here, and the family didn't like living in Houston (Katy), so I moved them back home, now they're happy, and I'm still here for awhile longer (and I'm happy here! ). Anyhow, I traded in the old Peavey Classic 30 on an Egnater Tweaker (112, 15 watts combo), I love it! It sounds great with the GT10, or with pedals in the front. The Celestion G12h 30 watt speaker makes a big difference I find, but the different voicings are great when going into it clean, no pedals, just the RetroComp (it's not a pedal, its another instrument!!!!). I have no pictures but I have a link form Egnater site. Hope to record a few clips maybe this weekend with it, just needed a change in sound, and this amp grabbed me when at GC.

Anyhow, hope the regulars are doing well. I see Louie is still posting killer tunes and "The Master Luthier" (Marty) is still at it! Scotty is still lavishing us with his humour, so there's still a few regulars around, no where near standing room only! Anyhow, we'll catch ya's later, and here's a link to the model I got:

15 songs, 4 chords, 1 strum pattern

Posted by Blank731 in Technique & Theory

- I called this video "the truth about strum patterns" because I get so many questions about them on my youtube channel and wanted an answer that might satisfy everyone. I think this kind of proves my point that the strum pattern usually isn't that big of a deal and there's a really popular one that you can use most of the time (or a slight variation of it maybe).

I picked up a 1986 model 4M Charvel in VG condition today.

Those are stacked humbuckers in the neck and middle position.

The model 4 has an active mid boost.

I kid myself that I will sell a few of my lower end models to balance out the money spent but I know it will probably never happen.

The only modification I intend to do is to swap in a real floyd rose with a big brass sustain block.

re-setup for move to lower guage?

Posted by Rain85 in DIY - Modify and Maintain Your Guitar

- Hi All,

I own a Ibanez RG321. Factory setup gauge of strings on it are regular light gauge (.01 to .046). I use Daddario regular light gauge. I would like to switch to a lower guage, ernie ball super slinky (9 - 42).

I am not expert on this stuff but would i mess up setup of my guitar if i go ahead with this switch. Any other possible problem i should be aware of?

If it would then can i fix/re-setup guitar on my own, especially if i do not have much experience in this area. How complicated a job can it be and should i consider doing it on my own with guidance from more experienced and expert people on this forum.

Any advice is really appreciated. Thanks!

Advice On Wiring I Plan for My Guitar...

Posted by TheGuitarTodd in Ask The Pros

- I have an import Oscar Schmidt OE20 Lp copy that I plan on putting new p/u's in and rewiring & would like opinions of guys who understand electronics and good tone. Here's my list of parts~

NECK: DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion p/u
          •tone~500K pot w/ .047uF orange drop cap
          •volume~500K push/pull pot w/.001uF cap(treble bleed)

BRIDGE: DiMarzio DP161 Steve's Special p/u
             •tone~500K pot w/ .022uF orange drop cap
             •volume~500K push/pull pot w/ .001uF cap(treble bleed)

I will wire it all together with a premier braided wire kit w/ a Switchcraft 3-way toggle switch~this is my first time doing this and I have read a lot of reviews and forums to come up with this. I'm looking for suggestions on this setup or advice and things to watch for. I play rock and metal in standard tuning or half-step down. Although I like distortion and reverb, I try not to saturate my tone with distortion and rely on pick attack for heavier sounds. I do not want an overly metal sound. I just want all the notes and chords to ring w/o being muddy and I know I get that from settings but want this install to be perfect or close and do not want to do it again on this guitar. Hoping that after this and new tuning machines that I can move on to the next axe. I put a graphite nut on it so this should be it along with the tuners. Any advice is appreciated! Thanx!

Chord charts for the tracks

Posted by guitarist83605 in Ask The Pros

- First of all, let me say that this is an awesome site and I have never felt closer to my guitar than since I started this course. I've been acoustic for many years, through many genres of traditional blues and country styles to name a few, but since I've gone electric and started coming here...oogahh. I'm just doing what you tell me and I can feel my progress daily. I'm even writing again. It's like a re-birth.
Okay, enough of that. As my ear is not as good as it used to be (I'm 67 with hearing loss) I can't always hear where the chords are going on the backing tracks and would love to have some kind of template to follow in terms of chords and general theme. I do read music, but I have an ear by which my playing is mostly guided by.
                                 Thanks,
                                    Neil (laughingbear)

Posted by Julia_343 in Our Music

- I was composing and arranging these two pieces. They're orchestral. 24 parts. Granted this is a guitar focused site, but I thought you might be interested. I did them for a community mod for a Mass Effect game. I'd never written anything orchestral before, so I thought i'd give it a shot. The first composition is all mine. The second composition is mine up until it goes into the Mass Effect Theme where it becomes an orchestral arrangement. I used East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra, both Studio One Pro 2, and Cubase 7 for this project.

The reception of the music for the community mod has been shall we say it has been stirring. It has been either very well received or it has been not panned but disliked. There has been no luke warm reception, and for that I'm glad.

So here it is. I'll post the soundcloud and the Youtube in full.

"No One Gets Left Behind" - this is where Commander Shepard has fallen, and a few of the fleet make a desperate attempt at a rescue against impossible odds.

http://soundcloud.com/julia-6/no-one-gets-left-behind-51813

"Their Finest Hour" / "Mass Effect Theme" - we are victorious. At the 1:27 mark is where my original work ends, and Sam Hulick's melody begins. The brass arrangement after that point however, is mine

http://soundcloud.com/julia-6/their-finest-hour_mass-effect

The full soundtrack with the Sound FX (I did these as well - using Heavyocity Evolve, Mutations, Heavyocity Damage, Absynth, and some recorded multiplayer)

maestro double neck

Posted by ambroasia in Electric Guitar

- at first, i was hesitant about buying a guitar that I have not heard of before, but then i found one on ebay at $275, which I couldn't pass up. Even then I was weary about the quality after I had ordered it, until I got the guitar It is a bit on the heavy side, so playing and rehearsing with it on is a bit much, but other than that, the overall sound isn't that bad at all. I was originally looking for the Epiphone E 1275 doubleneck, but Gibson had discontinued the model and it was getting hard to find one, and people were jacking up the prices on them because they now know the scarcity of the guitar. the neck on the maestro does feel a lot better (to me anyway) then the neck did on the epiphone or the gibson counter part. only time will tell how good the quality of the wood is when it has aged, but hopefully the guitar will become lighter than it is now. it maynot. the quality of the guitar is no where up there as with the Epiphone or the Gibson couunter parts, but for what I had paid for, it is not bad. At first I was thinking of replacingthe neck with the epiphone, but now I see no reason to. I was even thinking of upgrading the pickups, but after playing around with it for a couple of days, i am keeping it all original parts. the only thing about the guitar was that the instruction came in chinese. it would have been nice if they iincluded instructions and specs in multiple for languages.
This is definitely not a gibson, but quality wise, not bad at all, and I am satisfied with it. but buyers, fellow guitarists, check it out, before you buy. It feels good to me, but it may not feel right to you. You be the judge.

I have an effects pedal question

- Ok, so maybe this has been going on and I just never noticed, but lately I seem to be experiencing a slight volume decrease when my guitar is run through my effects chain before I've even activated any of the pedals. The chain includes a volume pedal, tuner, chorus, distortion, delay, temolo, and an rc-30 loop station. I tried running my epiphone jr directly into my amp, a fender superchamp, then I ran through my effects and, like I said, I hadn't even turned on any of the pedals, and I definitely noticed a little bit of a volume decrease. Is this normal and I've just never noticed it? Also, my effects are on my board, yet I run my guitar straight into the volume pedal which is the first pedal in my chain rather than using the "from guitar" input on the board.

Replacement pickup

Posted by twall in DIY - Modify and Maintain Your Guitar

- Hi everyone.

I need some advice from you. I have an Ibanez RG350MDX, and I love the sound of the pickup in the bridge position. It really gets the pinch harmonics my other guitars miss. However, I hate the "Floyd Rose" in it. I rarely use a trem.

I recently picked up a cheap hardtail Kramer Striker 211, and that suits me a lot better. It's nice except for one thing: the bridge pickup sucks. I was going to swap it out with the Infinity 4 from the RG, but the adjustment screws are odd, and it won't work without modifying the trim bezel on the Kramer.

Does anyone know of a passive pickup that sounds like the Infinity 4? I write songs that sound similar to 80's hair metal, Van Halen and White Lion. I don't think I need anything with a bunch of low end, or a "scooped" sound. Just something that works well with pinch harmonics.

Thanks in advance.
